Exercise #165: Interactive
Posted 6/23/06

You’ve seen the “thought-you-saids” people have posted in preparation for this exercise. It’s time to choose!

Pick one of the Prep submissions posted by someone else (you may not choose your own). Got one? Now make the “thought-you-said” into what was really said. Show us the scene as the original speaker actually utters the bizarre translated phrase.

For example, the original Prep notice contained this sample for a Prep:
Two women talking at the kitchen table.
"When my husband tells me he has a bad hair day, I tell him to wear a hat."
(Shocked look on listener's face.) "You ask him where at?"

To use this for the exercise, I would write a scene where two women are talking at the kitchen table. One would say:
"When my husband tells me he has a bad hair day, I ask him where at.”

You may choose to show us the scene at the misheard sentence, or the events leading up to the line. Have fun!
