Exercise #358: Craft
Posted  3/5/10

Another pause in the use of your Exercise #336 suggestions for Craft so I can use this one sent in by Mellissa Green. She wondered if we could do an exercise on writing a query letter.

I set about researching query letters. I discovered I don’t know much at all, but with the wonders of the Web, I don’t have to recreate the wheel. I found an excellent article on query letters: http://www.poewar.com/how-to-write-a-query-letter/

Today’s assignment is to write a query letter for one of your articles, stories, or novels, whether you have one ready to publish or just in the idea stage.

Critiquers, if you were a harried, underpaid editor, would this query letter catch your eye? Why or why not?

Word limit: 1200
