Exercise #764

Exercise #764: Self Knowledge
Posted 6/15/18

Songs speak to us with words or melody or both and we all have one or a handful that trigger emotion every time we hear them. Today’s exercise has three parts.

Part one is to share one of your emotional songs. Find it on YouTube with a video if you can and give us the link, but if you can’t, just give us the title and artist.

Part two is to tell us about this song. What does it trigger in you and why?

Part three is to listen to someone else’s song. Do you have the same reaction? Share what you feel from your fellow author’s choice. Since this requires someone to post first, I’ve put in three of my song choices:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUhmZBewpzE (Three Wooden Crosses, Randy Travis)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gh1m0eC1004 (Riding With Private Malone, David Ball)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0QkAlYn7uQ (Feed Jake, Pirates of the Mississippi)

As always, you can choose to have a character do this exercise instead.

Critiquers, you might try answering these questions for critiquing the piece:
     * Did you catch any spelling errors or other standard proofreading items? If so, note them for the author.
     * Could you relate to this piece? Why or why not?

Word limit: 600 for essay on your song, 600 for essay on other song
Please use the subject line:

Why this is a self-knowledge exercise: How we react emotionally to certain songs can tell us quite a bit!
