Exercise #134: Self Knowledge Posted 11/18/05
Have you ever been around a child who asked “why” about everything? When you’d answer, they’d ask “why” about that, too. Even as we get older, the “why” is important. I find it much easier to do something distasteful, at home or at work, if I know why I should be doing it. Cleaning the toilet is a good example; we clean the toilet because it would soon become the nastiest place we’ve ever seen if we didn’t.
Explain the why of something to someone today. Then come back and tell us: How did it feel? Do you think it made a difference to them?
Word limit: 1200 Please use the subject line: SUB: Exercise #134/yourname
Why this is a self-knowledge exercise: This exercise is intended as a self-knowledge exercise because in finding something to explain, we may realize just how much of this world we don’t know.
