Exercise #1014: Self Knowledge Posted 11/17/23
My new car is red. Very, very red. It’s LOUD. I’m not driving it until we wrap it to change the color. But in this process I found out something about myself. I *thought* I didn’t want to drive the car because I didn’t want to be noticed. I like to remain in the shadows, not be the center of attention, and go quietly about my day.
Apparently, not so much.
We’re wrapping the car with an amazing display of fantasy. This is going to be LOUD too. I will be noticed. I will not be able to remain in the shadows and most likely some folks will ask about it.
It seems I don’t want to drive the LOUD red car because I will be noticed for the wrong reasons.
Think about this and then write! If you are an introvert like me, what reason would be enough to justify attention? If you’re an extrovert (who already likes attention), what reason would be enough to throw you into the shadows?
As always, you may choose to show a character answering this exercise instead.

Why this is a self-knowledge exercise: Sometimes what we think we know is actually an assumption. This exercise may help to shake up some of those assumptions.
