Exercise #148: Situation

Today’s exercise was inspired by Lata.
An extended family is sitting down for a reunion dinner on the eve of the first day of the new year.
The family includes a conservative father, a liberal mother, three children (two teenagers and one twenty-one-year-old), a passive grandmother, a vocal and excitable grandfather, and a gay uncle. The twenty-one-year-old announces an intention to join the army.
Describe the scene.
If you want an additional challenge, use the premise of Lata’s original idea. The family is Chinese, and the day is the first day of the Year of the Dog.
