Exercise #269: Self Knowledge
Posted 6/20/08

Did you ever see the film A Christmas Story? The whole storyline is about a boy who wants nothing more than a certain BB gun for Christmas. It’s not a film I rate among my favorites, but it did lend itself to some reflection on desires.

Today, look back into your life and show us the story of something you wanted - deeply desired - but never managed to get. How do you feel about that desire now? Do you have regrets, or is it okay?

As always, you may choose to write a fictional piece where a character is somehow involved with today's exercise.

Critiquers, if the author has done a true self-knowledge piece, try to limit your comments to technical notes (grammar, spelling, etc.) and your own impressions (I understood it, I’ve been there, etc.). If the author has done a fictional piece, note within your CRIT whether you felt the character truly “did” the exercise.

Word limit: 1200
Please use the subject line:
       SUB: Exercise #269/yourname

This self-knowledge exercise may help you realize how transient our desires can be.
