Exercise #310: Craft
Posted 4/3/09

A question arose out of Exercise #306 that I’d like to see us tackle. One of you said, “You know, the hardest thing in critiquing is finding a way to tell a person that his or her SUB is trite, error-ridden, poorly written and constructed, and that you wonder if the person took the trouble to re-read it before hitting the Send button.”

We don’t get that kind of SUB very often here, but I find when people discover that I write, they often have something I’ve “just got to read.” I’m sure many of us have had this experience.

What do you do when this happens?

Critiquers, since this is a subjective Craft exercise, I don’t know if you’ll find much to CRIT in these SUBs. It might be better for you to pick an older SUB to critique. If you absolutely must critique this exercise, try to show us what you’ve learned from this SUB.
