Exercise #565: Craft Posted 4/5/14
Let’s revisit revisions.
For this exercise, write a single scene of 500 words or less. You may use a section from the piece you wrote for our recent Journey, if you like. (Need a scene? Contact me privately.)
Now revise it. Tighten up the wording. Add sensory impressions. Build some characterization into it. Give it the hint of a plot, if it doesn’t have one. Proofread!
Submit both your pieces, the original and the revision, in your SUB.
Critiquers, along with the usual technical critique, you might answer these questions: * Was this piece helpful to you as a writer? Why or why not? * Did you see any other places that needed revision? If so, note them for the author.
Word limit: 1200, total of both pieces Please use the subject line SUB: Exercise #565/yourname
