Exercise #605: Question Posted 1/23/15
Today’s Question is “What the heck does that mean?”
The scene is a local theater house, where a live play will be presented soon. Folk wander in and find their seats, folk already sitting create a low murmur of noise as they talk about things. A few people leave again - perhaps to get concessions now that they’ve found their seats or to make that last bathroom stop before the play starts.
One woman is leaving, walking at a brisk but unhurried pace. A woman’s voice behind her cuts through the murmur; “Laura! Hey, Laura!”
The woman leaving turns, and her expression shows she recognizes the one calling out. “Hi!” She waves.
“I love your hair!” cries the unseen voice.
“I like your face!” says Laura. She turns and continues on her way out.
What? What on earth did that mean?
So here’s your task: You may choose to either a) describe the scene which triggered this odd dialog, or b) describe what happens outside after the play.
Critiquers, along with a technical review, you might note how well the SUB fit the exercise.
