Exercise #609: Self Knowledge
Posted 2/20/15

We have routines; we do things the same way each time. Some say routines are very close to ruts and others view routines as more efficient. Don’t believe you’re affected? Try one of these simple tests:

Shoes and socks: Do you put on both socks first or one sock and one shoe first? Whichever way you do it, try switching it - do it the other way.

or

Your watch: Switch your wristwatch. If it’s on the right arm, put it on the left.

Easy, right? Show us a scene that explains how switching it up felt for you.

As always, you may show a character tackling this exercise instead.

Critiquers, you might choose to answer these questions for critiquing the piece:
     * Did you catch any spelling errors or other standard proofreading items? If so, note them for the author.
     * Could you relate to this? If so, how?

             SUB: Exercise #609/yourname

I consider this a self-knowledge exercise because examining our routines can be an awakening. Doing the same thing the same way every time, we start to not even be aware of the “doing” of it at all.
