Exercise #641: Self Knowledge Posted 10/16/15
Today’s exercise comes from Sue F.
Someone I was interacting with apologized for the delay, and I said, "That's okay. Mama said 'Patience is a virtue.' "
Let’s think about advice. You may answer this exercise one of three ways: a) Think of the advice a parent has given you. From your perspective now, did you follow it? Did it work out as planned? b) As a parent, what advice have you given to a child? As far as you know, was your advice taken? c) Advice in general: Have you ever given any to anyone? Was it taken?
As always, you may show a character tackling this exercise instead.
Critiquers, you might choose to answer these questions for critiquing the piece: * Did you catch any spelling errors or other standard proofreading items? If so, note them for the author. * Could you relate to this? If so, how?
Word limit: 1200 Please use the subject line: SUB: Exercise #641/yourname
I consider this a self-knowledge exercise because it seems very easy to solution other people’s problems; giving advice which is wise often feels simple. Getting and using such advice from others doesn’t always work the same way.
