Exercise #713: Craft Posted 6/2/17
Today’s exercise comes from Steven.
We all write a lot of fiction here at The Desk Drawer. For this Craft exercise, let’s try non-fiction, specifically an opinion piece/editorial. Non-fiction writing can be tricky because we are limited to the real world, not some person or place we’ve dreamed up. Opinion pieces also sharpen our persuasive writing skills.
Pick a topic you’d like to write about; it can be as simple as an opposing view to the new factory or why a new law is a good thing. Or something more. Show us your view and challenge us to change our minds or at least open them! Or give us some new angle we may not have seen before. Politics are not off limit, but please be respectful as possible!
As always, please remember to include a warning if anyone might be offended by your work.
There are hundreds of sites offering advice on how to write opinion effectively. Use your own or follow this link for one that was just 5 tips: https://www.thoughtco.com/writing-an-opinion-essay-1856999
Critiquers, along with a technical review look for clear, concise use of words: * Did the author change your mind or manage to sway your view? * Was the topic timely? Why or why not?
Word limit: 800 Please use the subject line SUB: Exercise #713/yourname
