Exercise #726

Exercise #726: Craft
Posted  9/1/17

Today’s exercise comes to us from Tyger.

Plotting from real life:

Inspiration comes from many sources, and our own lives are often the most useful. It is, however, not easy to take a real event and turn it into a good story. Sometimes, details have to be left out, changed, or added, characters have to be made more interesting, etc. This is a CRAFT exercise because it requires imagination and technical finesse.

Take an event from your life or from someone else’s life and let it trigger a story. Pay attention to how your story flows and how interesting the characters are. Give a short description of the event you used, then write your actual story.

Critiquers, in addition to checking for grammar and style, watch for how the writer made necessary changes to create a more powerful sub from the event.

Please note the larger word limit.
