Exercise #798: Self Knowledge Posted 3/15/19
What’s the most unusual thing you’ve ever done?
Since I tend not to write to these nearly as often as I should, mine is sending a salad - in the form of already-prepared various veggies in individual zipped bags surrounded by half-full frozen water bottles - via Federal Express to a location nearly 3,000 miles away. Cutting up and packaging the items did take a while but a friend helped.
It arrived the next day by 10am at my friend’s office (he flew home the night before), where they had a “bring your own salad dressing” party. Some of the California vegetables were new to a few of those folks. Was it weird? Probably. Was it expensive? A bit. Was it fun? Absolutely. (And no doubt it’s still talked about today.)
Find your unusual item, and show us a scene that illustrates what you did. Alternatively, you may also give us an essay about it, instead. If you go that route, think about these questions: Why did you do it? How did it make you feel? Would you do it again?
As always, you can choose to have a character do this exercise instead.
Critiquers, you might try answering these questions for critiquing the piece: * Did you catch any spelling errors or other standard proofreading items? If so, note them for the author. * Could you relate to this piece? Why or why not?

Why this is a self-knowledge exercise: Understanding why we do the things we do can help us control whether we do them or not. I think.
