Exercise #806: Self Knowledge Posted 5/17/19
Do you have a book or movie which reminds you of a friend? Friends always seem to want to share good things they’ve discovered and sometimes those good things become our own good things. And yet, the memory of the first sharing is there, too, every time we read the book or see the movie.
Share a scene with us which depicts either the first sharing or a “remembering” of the sharing. (Lost? See the bottom for one of my examples. Perhaps that will help.)
As always, you can choose to have a character do this exercise instead.
Critiquers, you might try answering these questions for critiquing the piece: * Did you catch any spelling errors or other standard proofreading items? If so, note them for the author. * Could you relate to this piece? Why or why not?

Why this is a self-knowledge exercise: This exercise should help you remember a friend and our friends are an integral part of who we are (or who we became).
Example: One of my best friends in high school introduced me to the book series “The Lord of the Rings.” I’d never heard of Tolkien even though I was an avid reader. The series quickly became a favorite of mine and the boxed set that he gave me is still a cherished gift. That friend died in 1991 and I still miss him. Every time I re-read the books, he is there with me. For this exercise, I would probably write up that first gifting, beside the lockers between classes.
