Exercise #829

Exercise #829 Self Knowledge
Posted 11/15/19

Think back to when an event took over your life for a period of time. It can be a good event or a bad one; while the emotions are different (sometimes), the effect might not have been. What got put aside? What didn’t get done at all? How did the event resolve?

Now think about today and tomorrow. What’s on your to-do list? Reflect on the purpose of what you do . . . how does it fit into the grand scheme?

To write to the exercise, use your reflections and write a scene depicting either when a life-disrupting event is first brought to your attention, or the resolution moment of the event. You may write an essay if you prefer.

As always, you can choose to have a character do this exercise instead.

Critiquers, you might try answering these questions for critiquing the piece:
     * Did you catch any spelling errors or other standard proofreading items? If so, note them for the author.
     * Could you relate to this piece? Why or why not?

             SUB: Exercise #829/yourname

Why this is a self-knowledge exercise: The day-to-day grind sometimes takes on an importance that seems dire if we miss something. Did you get the garbage out on time? Deliver Aunt Rose’s gift before her birthday? Then something happens that puts it all into perspective . . . but after a while, we forget. Sometimes it’s good to review the actual importance of the things we do.
