Exercise #985: Self Knowledge Posted 3/17/23
For today’s exercise, scroll down your list of text conversations in your phone, the caller ID list on your phone or sort by receipt date and scroll down in your email. Get to about three months ago ... who is there, needing to hear from you?
This works best on texts because the conversation moves up in the list every time you touch it, where the caller ID list is static and email depends on the subject lines. What we’re looking for is someone you haven’t contacted recently and might wish to reach out to today.
For your SUB, think about this person. What the last contact was about, how long it’s been, whether you did or did not contact them today (and why), whether you’ve thought about contacting them since that last conversation (and why you did not). Got all that? Now, write!
As always, you may choose to show a character answering this exercise instead.
Critiquers, you might try answering these questions for critiquing the piece: * Did you catch any spelling errors or other standard proofreading items? If so, note them for the author. * Could you relate to this piece? Why or why not?
Word limit: 1200 Please use the subject line: SUB: Exercise #985/yourname
Why this is a self-knowledge exercise: Is one of the folks you haven’t talked to someone you regard as a friend? Maybe even a good friend? Thinking about why it’s been so long since the last contact may help you strengthen this and other friendships.
